What's in a color pigment?

Bets Cole and I started a conversation about how to paint with less toxic paint. I would like to continue that conversation. This data base lists the contents of every paint I have ever heard of.
I am looking for replacements for Cadmiums and Cobols...I have taken them off my palette.

  1. pyranthrone PR216 is suggested it could be fugitive at the artiscreation.com site. I have used this pigment as a substitute for cadmium red in murals because it was listed as absolutely lightfast (cadmiums are not) for exterior work. I have seen this color 10 years after applied to exterior, unprotected wall looking brilliant and still red. My experience with this pigment is that it is not fugitive.
