This is one of Portland's working bridges. It opens in the middle to let barges, tugs, and ships through. George Roger's Park in Lake Oswego Oregon. It was raining the day I painted the Willamette River from George Roger's park. The river is up 20 feet or so from the rains and snow melt. The water bound bush in the foreground is actually a small tree. This is Hendricks Park in Eugene Oregon. The last Rhody is blooming. Festival of flowers at Pioneer Courthouse Square is being installed. Thousands of plants are moved into place. I was asked to leave the Square because of my easel. I entered this painting in the Oregon Society of Arists show for the Rose Festival 2010. It has been accepted into the show. This is Pittock Mansion in a rain storm. The Pittock family had a rose garden that led to the Rose festival every spring in Portland.

Here are a few more May 2010 plein air paintings. Portland is called "bridge city". Here is the Freemont Bridge that carries I405 traffic. Much of Portland is under construction. This is the view from the Smart Park garage across from Art Media on a very dark and stormy day. The red building is Nordstroms. Here is the view from Oregon Health Sciences University. The building on the right are the South Waterfront towers. Several are under construction. Teddy Roosevelt rides through South Park everyday. Here he is posing in front of the Ladd Towers apartment building where Peggie and I live. I call the "Teddy meets the Ladd"

Here are a few paintings from my first week in Portland, April 2010. This is the Portland Art Museum before it opens on Monday, April 19th. Here is South Park in the Rain the afternoon of April 20th. "Earth Day 2010" was painted on PSU Campus April 22nd. They had live music to paint by. Great fun. "Before the Roses" was painted on Friday, April 23rd, at Washington Park.
